Competing as a bikini, fitness or figure athlete can be very Costly, the best way to try to cover some expense is to apply to become a sponsored athlete, ambassador or an affiliate. But say you want to be a fully sponsored athlete? If so here are some valuable tips on snagging that sponsorship you’ve dreamed of! As a former athlete manager for a very prestigious supplement company it was my job to recruit talent to join the team. It’s really funny because I was once also sponsored by this company before i worked for them and the owner always said that to date i had written the best most thought out and impressive sponsorship letter and that was what made him to decide to bring me on board as an athlete. When i actually became an employee and now as a business owner I now understood fully why he stated my letter was so great! You want people on your team that represent your company with integrity and class so selecting these people was and still is no easy task  I couldn’t believe and still can’t believe the type of correspondence i would receive from potential candidates and in turn that’s why I wrote this piece on “ How To Get Sponsored …The RIGHT way!

When selecting athletes here are some extremely helpful tips that i believe will help you stand out from the other applicants.
1. FIND POTENTIAL COMPANIES
When selecting a company take a look at the current  products you use daily and then start from there. The only way to genuinely promote a product is to actually use the product. Don’t go to random companies that you don’t really use and request to be sponsored .. how can you promote a product you don’t believe in? People do it all the time and  it’s silly. Why would you promote a product that your probably getting for free to not like it and go spend your money on the products you really use?! Mind blowing lol but Once you figure out the product make sure you do your homework about the company. Know as much as you can about the company… know their history .. their products … highlight your favorite products and talk about them in your sponsorship letter. ( we will talk about that later in this article)
2. FIND A DIRECT CONTACT
This is where networking comes into play. Most direct contacts do put their info out there for people to contact them, It’s your job to hunt and gather that info. Ask around , just don’t send a dm to their Instagram asking for a sponsorship. This approach is very tacky and extremely unprofessional. The ONLY thing you should DM to ask for is a direct contact within the company of interest as to where you can email your sponsorship packet.  Chances are if you just email your info  to a Random email within the company the department you are trying to reach won’t ever get your email.  And all your efforts will be for nothing.
3. SPONSORSHIP LETTER
This right here is huge … this is what landed me my first official sponsorship. Companies receive DM’s and very vague emails everyday from athletes looking to get sponsored. A sponsorship packet gives you a chance to sell yourself. Yes you heard me right YOU MUST SELL YOURSELF to this company. Here are a list of things i suggest you include in your packet.
A. OPENING
Salute the reader … Introduce yourself briefly … tell them why you are emailing briefly … tell them how much you love their products and which ones are your favorite ones and why.
B. BIO
This when you go into detail as to Tell them who you are .. where you are from .. just some background info so they can get to know who you are. Where did you grow up .. did you go to school .. how long Have you been competing.. why did you start competing? What motivates you … be creative …Thousands of athletes reach out to companies for sponsorship. Treat this like a job interview tell them exactly why you would be an asset to their team. I get it you won a ton of shows but why should we give you free stuff or pay you to promote our products? Companies are in the business of making money so how would you go about helping them do so. Why would you be an asset to their team? Again this is your time to shine!!
C. SHOW PLACINGS AND OR ACHIEVEMENTS  ..
You won 3 overalls!! That’s great!! Okay so you never did a show but you lost 100lbs!!! That great also ..you just came back from being deployed and started working out!! Kudos to you …. believe it or not  to companies these are all valuable stories. The reason for it being valuable is because people love a great story. So tell them about your achievements both on and off the stage. Companies love this because as i hat stated people love a great story!
D. PICS
Any pics you have that show your accomplishments are a great addition. It helps to really put the pieces of the puzzle together as to who is writing this email. So gather your best pics and include them in your packet.
E. SOCIAL MEDIA
Today we live in the day of social media .. if you don’t have one i suggest you get with the program. Companies spend millions of dollars on social media in order to reach their target audience.. However it’s quality they look for and not quantity. Companies don’t care if you have 1 million followers .. they want to see how you react to your audience and most importantly how your audience reacts and perceives you. Make sure you target the right people in yojr industry … if you have 10k followers and they are all old men staring at your tatas that’s not gonna be helpful in your pushing a companies product. Maybe if your selling  viagra lol…  Do you get food engagement … do you post often. Don’t get caught up in the hoopla of getting tons of followers the best athlete we had on the team was an amateur bikini competitor from Boston who had 4K followers .. she was our highest sales person every month. She had more sales than Olympians we had on the team. So vamp up your social media and get with the program if you haven’t already.
F. CONTACT INFO
Include all of your current contact info and be sure to include all the links to your social media.
G. CLOSING
This is common courtesy thank them for their time and again  state that you are patiently but anxiously awaiting their response.
These are all items i included in my letter and the owner of the company was impressed. I was a new competitor had minimal followers and he Still offered me a contract. If i can do it you can too! There is no particular length but you want to fit in all the relative info that will aide them in making a decision!
Good Luck on our hunt and please feel free to email me with any questions! If you get denied don’t give up .. many companies also offer ambassador programs that get give their ambassadors big discounts on products. any bit you can save helps!!
